A truck driver blatantly admitted to using methamphetamine after crashing into the back of a grocery store in Florida on Wednesday.

The accident happened at the Publix shopping center on US 17-92 West in Haines City, Florida on May 25th.

Haines City Police Department reports that 51-year-old trucker Michael Calvo was making a delivery at the back of the building when he tore an awning off the building and struck an unoccupied pickup with his rig, pushing it approximately 200 feet. Both the semi truck and the pickup truck were totaled in the incident, but no one was hurt.

Haines City Police Officer Alejandro Tejada then responded to the scene and questioned Calvo about the incident. When asked if he needed any medical assistance, Calvo told the officer that he thought he was being “pranked” by a TV show and refused to exit the cab of his truck.

Calvo’s resistance caused a scene at the shopping center, prompting some onlookers to flock to the incident. Officer Tejada was eventually able to get Calvo out of his truck and again questioned him about the reason behind the incident, questioning whether he had fallen asleep, experienced a medical emergency, or if he had been drinking.

“I was smoking my meth pipe,” Calvo responded.

“We appreciate Mr. Calvo’s honest response to the officer’s question,” said Haines City Deputy Police Chief Loyd Stewart. “But using meth is illegal and could have cost someone their life.”
Calvo was arrested and is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest without violence and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
