On Wednesday, North Liberty, Iowa-based Heartland Express, Inc. announced the acquisition of a Pennsylvania-based truckload carrier.

Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania-headquartered dry van truckload carrier Smith Transport, Inc. and related entities have been acquired by Heartland Express for approximately $170 million, according to an announcement from the companies.

Smith Transport was founded in 1982 and operates a fleet of approximately 850 company tractors and approximately 2,000 dry van trailers. The company has terminals in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Indiana.
