The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) shared skin-crawling video of a snow plow clearing a massive number of Mormon crickets from the roadway.
On July 21, ITD took to Facebook to share video captured on State Highway 51 last week.
In the video, a snow plow removes Mormon Crickets from the highway as they present a hazard for drivers.
“Watch out for slick spots,” ITD said.
The insects were named for their attacks on Mormon crops in Utah in the 1800s, but they’re actually a type of katydid that can grow up to 3 inches in length and eat dozens of pounds of crops during their 100 day life cycle. They can’t fly but they can walk about a mile per day.
