The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating a fatal traffic incident that occurred near Louetta, Texas, on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1:35 p.m. on August 4.

According to HCSO, an 18 wheeler was southbound in the 20500 block of the North Freeway when “the two tires on the left side middle tandem axle came off the truck and rolled uncontrollably in the main lanes of the North Freeway.”

One of the tires rolled onto a service road and struck a vehicle, causing minor damage but no injuries.

The other tire bounced over the center wall and into the northbound lanes of the North Freeway.

“The wheel bounced and struck a vehicle in the windshield striking the driver and sheering the roof of the vehicle,” HCSO said.

Motorist Lee Simon, 32, died at the scene. His eleven year old son suffered minor injuries.

ABC13 reports that the truck driver stopped and cooperated with police.

The incident remains under investigation.
