The New York Police Department (NYPD) recently responded to public complaints by targeting truckers illegally parked near a park.

On November 24, the NYPD partnered with New York City Councilman Paul Vallon to ticket truck drivers parked on Whitestone Expressway near Harvey Park. Authorities say that the parking crackdown was a response to complaints from the public.

Vallon also said that the parked truck are a threat to safety and the public enjoyment of the park. “Commercial trucks constantly lined up along the perimeter of the park decrease visibility and pose a risk to pedestrians seeking safe access to this popular green space. I thank Commanding Officer John O’Connell and the 109th Precinct for their attention to this issue and look forward to our continued partnership,” he said.

QNS.com reports that 15 truck drivers were issued summonses.

This isn’t the first time that the problem of finding legal truck parking in New York City has been highlighted this year.

In March 2020, the New York Police Department’s 66th Precinct was called out on social media for an operation to tow illegally parked tractor trailers during the early days of the Coronavirus pandemic, when the supply chain was tested by shoppers who were panic buying goods.
