Traffic was brought to a standstill in Randolph County on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, after a tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 73, causing major damage to a bridge and spilling heavy equipment across the roadway.

The accident occurred near Asheboro, on northbound I-73 close to the Salisbury Street Bridge at NC-42. According to reports from WXII12, the truck collided with the bridge, causing it to overturn. The impact tore open the trailer and released large equipment onto the road.

Officials shut down northbound I-73 for several hours as emergency crews responded and cleared the debris. The highway was reopened around 3:00 p.m., but the Salisbury Street Bridge remains closed until further notice due to structural damage.

There is no word yet on whether anyone was injured in the crash, and no additional details have been released by authorities.
