A Texas police officer was injured after being struck by a car and shoved into the path of an oncoming semi truck on Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened on August 8th at around 1:30 p.m. in Richmond, Texas.

According to ABC 13, the chain-reaction crash began when a police officer pulled over a tractor trailer in the northbound lanes of Interstate 69 near Crabb River Road and Highway 99 for unknown reasons.  The officer was still inside of his vehicle when they were struck by another car. The force of the impact sent the patrol car spinning out onto the highway and into the path of a second,  oncoming semi truck.

It is not clear why the car initially struck the patrol vehicle, but the officer was described as being “banged up” in the crash. Other people involved in the accident are also reported to have major but non life-threatening injuries. It is not clear which of the drivers involved was injured.
