GREENSBORO, N.C. — An early-morning crash involving a semi-truck shut down part of US 29 South in Greensboro on Thursday, causing both a diesel fuel spill and a messy load of ground turkey to leak onto the roadway.

The crash happened near E Market Street, according to Greensboro Fire Chief Dwayne Church, who told WFMY News 2 that the impact caused the truck to leak about 50 gallons of diesel fuel. Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the fuel from reaching nearby storm drains, and remaining fuel was pumped into barrels for safe removal.

WFMY crews at the scene also confirmed the substance leaking from the truck was ground turkey meat, which spilled onto the road during the crash.

According to WFMY News 2, Greensboro Police and Fire responded to the scene, but EMS was not called. US 29 South was closed for several hours and reopened shortly before 11 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The cause of the crash has not been released.
