A truck driver was injured and several cows were killed in a DUI crash between a cattle hauler, car, and disabled semi truck in Illinois on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. on Interstate 80 in Joliet, Illinois near Houbolt Road.

According to CBS Chicago, the cattle hauler struck a Honda coupe and then drifted off the road, where it struck a disabled semi truck stopped on the shoulder. The force of the impact threw several cattle out of the truck and onto the highway and freed others.

The cattle hauler suffered life threatening injuries in the wreck and was transported to a nearby hospital. That driver was also charged with driving under the influence and has been issued citations for failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage.

I-80 was shut down for nearly six hours between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue as crews worked to wrangle the 17 loose cows and bulls. It has since been reopened.
