The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is asking drivers to move over for emergency vehicles after a semi truck struck a trooper and his vehicle during an inspection.

The incident occurred Tuesday, April 26, on I-70 near Ellis, Kansas.

According to KHP, Trooper Summers was performing a truck inspection alongside the interstate when “he was struck by another commercial motor vehicle that failed to move left for him.”

“Trooper Summers was standing at/in the door of the truck he was inspecting when this happened. Thankfully he was not seriously injured, this could have easily been much worse!” KHP said in a social media post.

KHP notes that Kansas law requires drivers to move over for a stationary emergency vehicle on a multi lane highway.

“We are out every day trying our best to make sure Kansas roads are safer for everyone to travel on, please give us room to do this!” KHP said.
