The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is currently spearheading a major speeding traffic enforcement effort.

Starting on July 1 and lasting through September 5, 2022, state and local law enforcement are participating in a high-visibility anti-speeding enforcement effort statewide in Connecticut.

CTDOT says that the purpose of the effort is to raise awareness and change driver behavior.

“When speeding is involved in a fatal crash, it is never an accident,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Joseph Giulietti. “Our goal is to change this deliberate behavior and send a message to drivers that they could avoid speeding-related deaths in Connecticut if all drivers obeyed the posted speed limits.”

According to CTDOT, as of June 19, 2022, there have been 166 traffic-related deaths in Connecticut, up from 123 in 2021 and 126 in 2020, during the same January 1 through June 19 period.

While Connecticut’s anti-speeding campaign is taking place, a nationwide driver crackdown focused on speeding will also soon be underway. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is taking place July 10 — 16, 2022, in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The area of special emphasis for Operation Safe Driver Week this year is speeding.
