Police in Ottumwa, Iowa, are asking for tips from the public after a truck and a large amount of pork product were stolen from a plant this week.

Police were notified of the theft of semi trailers around 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, according to Lt. Jason Bell with the Ottumwa Police Department.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a semi truck was stolen from the area of the JBS Pork facility. That semi truck is believed to have been used to steal three trailers loaded with pork products ready for distribution.

The semi truck and all of the trailers were later recovered by police.

Bell said that two of the trailers were found at the Blackhawk River Access in Ottumwa. The truck and one trailer were found in Wapello County near the intersection of 87th Street and 170th Avenue.

All of the pork product had been removed from the trailers.

The estimated value of the stolen pork is more than $100,000.

“Anybody that would have observed any suspicious activity involving semis and semi-trailers, during the early morning hours of September 1st, are encouraged to contact the Ottumwa Police Department at 641-683-0661,” Bell requested in a news release.
