The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) released dash cam video that shows the moments leading up to a fatal officer-involved shooting on the Turner Turnpike in September 2023.

OHP released the dash cam video on Friday, January 5.

The video was captured during a traffic stop that began around 8:20 a.m. on September 20, 2023, on the eastbound Turner Turnpike at mile marker 183 in Creek County near Stroud, Oklahoma.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on a semi truck driven by  Alejandro Faudo.

Fox 23 reports that the trooper suspected criminal activity and placed Faudo out of service.

The trooper then requested assistance from a canine unit.

While waiting for the canine unit, the trooper asked for permission to search the truck, but Faudo reportedly refused.

Upon learning that a canine unit was en route, police say that Faudo fled from the trooper’s cruiser and tried to get back in the cab of his truck.

“A physical struggle ensued roadside and continued into the cab of the truck. The driver attempted to drive away with the trooper still engaged in a physical confrontation with him. At approximately 8:35, the trooper advised the communications center shots had been fired,” Oklahoma DPS said.

OHP says that the trooper and Faudo were fighting in the cab for control of the vehicle and that the trooper saw Faudo reaching for the driver’s side door pocket. The trooper said he fired because he feared that Faudo was reaching for a weapon as the truck started to move.

Faudo died at the scene.

Oklahoma authorities said that they do not plan to file charges against the trooper involved in the shooting.
