Dozens of law enforcement agencies are taking part in a Pennsylvania driver crackdown now through late April.

Officials say that a coordinated aggressive driving enforcement wave is underway through through April 28, 2024 with a goal of reducing crashes, injuries, and traffic fatalities statewide.

More than 80 law enforcement agencies from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will join Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) for the traffic detail.

Officers will be on the lookout for aggressive driving behaviors including speeding, tailgating, failure to use turn signals, running red lights, failure to yield, cutting off other drivers, and intimidation maneuvers.

Officers will use a variety of techniques to target dangerous aggressive drivers, including traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies.

 According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), preliminary 2023 crash data shows there were 1,297 aggressive driving crashes, resulting in 39 fatalities and 99 suspected severe injuries in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

PennDOT advises that you take the following steps if you encounter an aggressive driver:

• Get out of their way and don’t challenge them.
• Stay relaxed, avoid eye contact, and ignore rude gestures.
• Don’t block the passing lane if you drive slower than most traffic.
• Do not attempt to follow or pursue the vehicle. You or a passenger may call the police. But, if you use a cell phone, pull over to a safe location.
