The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has confirmed that multiple fatalities occurred during a Sunday evening pileup crash in Millard County.

The pileup occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, on I-15 near mile marker 152, between the Meadow and Kanosh exits.

According to UHP, high winds caused a dust or sandstorm which led to reduced visibility on the roadway and triggered a 22 vehicle pileup crash.

Authorities say that seven people, “including some children,” perished in the pileup.

Five of the seven people killed were traveling together in one vehicle. The other two were traveling together in another vehicle.

At least 10 other people suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. Three people are listed in critical condition.

UHP’s Colonel Rapich said, “This was a tragic and horrible crash. While we morn those who lost their lives in this incident I am amazed with the response of our Troopers, Sheriffs Office, EMS, Fire and the incredible volunteers from communities across Millard County.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox tweeted, “We’re stunned and saddened by the horrific accidents in Millard County. We fervently pray for the loved ones of those who perished and for those fighting for their lives.”
