Update: 20:31 March 20 2025

Union, CT – A truck driver involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 84 has been arrested after an investigation revealed that he provided false statements about the incident.

James Desruisseaux, 33, of Hyde Park, MA, was taken into custody on March 13, 2025, in connection with a crash that occurred on February 29, 2024. The accident resulted in the death of Carlos Vega, 45, of Enfield, CT, after both trucks veered off the highway and plunged into Morey Pond.

Initially, Desruisseaux claimed that Vega’s truck had veered into his lane, causing the collision. However, video footage from both trucks contradicted his statement. Investigators determined that Desruisseaux himself had veered into Vega’s lane, leading to the deadly crash.

Desruisseaux is now facing charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, and providing a false statement. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 26, 2025.
