A seasoned truck driver with more than four decades of experience is gaining attention for his brutally honest take on the trucking lifestyle during a rising trend of “fuel pump interviews.”

In the clip, the driver begins by outlining the advantages of the job: consistent employment opportunities and the ability to earn well — especially for those who are skilled and driven. “If you’re good at it, you’ll always have work,” he says, highlighting the financial freedom that can come with the profession.

But the tone quickly shifts when he speaks about the downsides of the lifestyle. “Three divorces, and life is extremely long,” he says, summing up the toll it’s taken on his personal life.

“Closest thing to being in prison,” he adds. “Except he’s got a bathroom. You don’t.”

When asked if he would choose trucking again, he’s clear: “If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t get in the dang truck.”

He also reflects on his peak earning years, saying he once made $360,000 as an owner operator running team with his ex-wife on a dedicated route. These days, he earns around $78,000 annually. He also laments the fading camaraderie among truckers, noting that the bond shared by drivers 25 years ago is largely gone.

The interview has sparked conversation among drivers and non-drivers alike about the rewards and sacrifices of life on the road.
