Severe weather and high winds caused major disruptions in Vandalia, Ohio on Wednesday evening, knocking down multiple trees and power lines — including a high-tension 3-phase power line that fell across Interstate 75 near Northwoods Boulevard.

As a result, all lanes of I-75 were shut down north of I-70, bringing traffic to a standstill in both directions. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and take alternate routes while crews worked to clear the obstruction.

According to WDTN, the incident has also caused a significant power outage on the east side of Vandalia.

Utility provider AES was contacted and is currently dispatching a crew to assist with repairs. Local authorities say the restoration will take time and remind residents not to call 911 for outage updates, but instead contact AES at 877-4OUTAGE.

OHGO traffic cameras reported delays of over 30 minutes, with vehicles at a complete stop in both directions. The situation remains active and developing.
