Truck Carrying 45,000 Pounds of Bottled Water Overturns on I-91 in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A truck hauling 45,000 pounds of bottled water overturned on Interstate 91 in North Haven, causing significant traffic delays and sending the driver to the hospital, according to local officials.
The crash happened on I-91 South between Exits 13 and 12, also affecting local roads near the 300 block of Washington Avenue, the North Haven Fire Department said.
Photos shared by the department show the truck on its side with bottled water scattered inside the trailer. Because of the weight and damage, crews will have to offload the bottles by hand before they can clear the vehicle.
The driver was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
Firefighters also responded to a minor diesel spill, which they were able to contain within the truck’s tanks until the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) arrived to pump out and recover the fuel.
According to NBC Connecticut, state troopers and the Department of Transportation are investigating and managing traffic while crews clear the scene.
Motorists should expect delays until the cleanup is complete.
