Semi Truck Overturns Off Bridge in Hazel, Driver Hospitalized

A semi-truck driver was taken to Murray-Calloway County Hospital early Saturday morning after his truck veered off a bridge and overturned near Hazel, Kentucky.
According to Calloway County Fire-Rescue, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. to the intersection of U.S. 641 South and KY 2547 (Old 641 South) following reports of a vehicle accident involving a bridge.
Upon arrival, first responders found a box truck semi had exited the right side of the roadway near the bridge and rolled over the side. Fortunately, the driver had already exited the vehicle and was assisted by Calloway County Sheriff's deputies. He was transported by EMS to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Due to environmental concerns, the Calloway County Office of Emergency Management called on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for support. Cleanup efforts extended throughout the day. Barricades were set up to reroute traffic into the southbound lanes, temporarily converting the four-lane stretch into two lanes.
Calloway County Fire-Rescue remained on the scene with two trucks and four personnel for roughly four and a half hours. Environmental cleanup operations concluded by approximately 6:30 p.m., when KYTC cleared the barrels and restored normal traffic flow.
According to Murray Ledger, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
