Late Monday night, a load of M&M candy was strewn across Interstate 80 in New Jersey after a collision between two tractor trailers near Knowlton Township.

The incident occurred around 10:17 p.m. on September 15th in the westbound lanes of I-80 near the 2.4 mile marker. According to Knowlton Township Fire & Rescue, a parked tractor trailer on the shoulder was rear-ended by another westbound semi hauling a full load of M&M candy. The impact tore open both trailers, spilling candy and debris across the roadway.

Emergency responders from Knowlton Township, including Engine 41-63, Rescue 41-73, Tanker 41-71, and EMS 15-51, were dispatched to the scene. An initial report also suggested the possibility of fire, which was quickly ruled out. The drivers of both trucks refused medical treatment and were not transported by EMS.

The westbound lanes of the highway were temporarily shut down by New Jersey State Police while the situation was assessed and the road was cleared. A detour was established during the cleanup phase, and traffic resumed just after midnight.

Officials thanked NJSP and NJDOT Incident Management teams for their assistance with traffic control and cleanup efforts. No injuries were reported, and no further details on the cause of the crash have been released.
