RALEIGH, N.C. – A truck driver operating an Amazon Prime big rig lost control and overturned the entire vehicle while attempting to exit I-440 westbound in Raleigh on Sunday afternoon, causing a fuel spill and major traffic delays. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on the I-440 westbound off-ramp to New Bern Avenue, a sharp curve connecting to U.S. 64 Business.

According to WNCN/CBS17, the driver was traveling too fast when making the turn, leading the entire tractor-trailer to overturn. Photos from the scene show the Amazon trailer and cab flipped on their side, with emergency personnel responding to the crash.

The overturned truck leaked fuel, prompting a hazmat response from the Raleigh Fire Department. Although no injuries were reported, the cleanup and investigation efforts required extended ramp closures. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) initially estimated that the off-ramp would reopen by 4:20 p.m., but the scene remained blocked until around 5:50 p.m..

Police stated that the driver will be cited for unsafe speed on the off-ramp. No further details about the driver's identity have been released.
