Driver heavily trapped, flown to hospital after semi-truck rollover in Barrington

BARRINGTON, Ill. — A semi-truck driver was seriously injured and airlifted to the hospital after being trapped for more than an hour following a collision with an SUV that caused his truck to roll over Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 2:35 p.m. at Barrington Road and Dundee Road, involving a semi-truck hauling a dump trailer and an Acura SUV, according to the Barrington Fire Department. Dashcam footage obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner showed the semi-truck traveling east on Dundee Road with a solid green light when the SUV pulled out in front of it while turning right from Barrington Road.
The semi-truck struck the Acura’s driver side and rolled over onto its roof, leaving the driver heavily trapped inside the cab. Firefighters worked for over an hour to free him from the wreckage. A LifeNet medical helicopter was called to Ron Beese Park, where the driver was transported by ambulance and then flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He remained alive as of Thursday morning, authorities said.
According to Lake and McHenry County Scanner, the SUV driver’s condition was not immediately known. The crash shut down the busy intersection for several hours as the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) conducted an investigation and reconstruction.
The roads were fully reopened by Thursday morning after Ernie’s Wrecker Service removed the dump truck and cleaned up debris, according to village officials. The Barrington Police Department said it expects to release more details later Thursday.
