KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A semi-truck driver blamed his GPS system for misleading him into thinking he was in a different city before he crashed his 18-wheeler into a ditch along Highway 63 in northeast Missouri, early Friday morning.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 63 and Adair County Route P, according to the Kirksville Police Department. The 68-year-old driver from the Chicago area was heading south on Highway 63 when he missed his turn onto Route P and ended up with the tractor and front of the trailer stuck in a ditch.

Police said the driver told them his GPS indicated he was in Columbia, Missouri, and he believed he was turning onto Vandiver Drive, a street located there.

Traffic on Route P was blocked for about an hour while a towing company worked to pull the big rig back onto the road. No injuries were reported, according to KTVO.
