Overturned tractor-trailer causes major traffic delays on I-495 in Chevy Chase
CHEVY CHASE, Md. — A multi-vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers caused heavy delays on Interstate 495 Tuesday morning after one of the trucks overturned near Connecticut Avenue, officials said.
The collision occurred on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway between Connecticut Avenue and Georgia Avenue, according to FOX 5 DC. The overturned truck blocked several lanes, leaving only the right lane open to traffic on the inner loop. On the outer loop, two left lanes remained closed, creating backups stretching as far as U.S. Route 29.
According to FOX 5 DC traffic slowly began to move again midmorning as crews worked to clear the wreckage and reopen lanes. Drivers were urged to expect significant delays and use alternate routes until cleanup operations were complete.
