Tractor-trailer flees after dropping load on Pennsylvania Turnpike, leaving debris that caused crashes and injured 3
DENVER, Pa. — A tractor-trailer fled the scene after striking a bridge and spilling part of its load onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike, leading to multiple vehicles crashing into the debris and injuring three people, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Friday on I-76 eastbound near the North Fifth Street overpass in Denver Borough, Lancaster County.
Investigators said the tractor-trailer hit the side of a bridge, causing its cargo to scatter across the highway. The driver did not stop and continued driving, leaving the debris behind.
Moments later, four other vehicles — two cars and two box trucks — struck the scattered debris, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to three occupants.
According to WGAL, crews temporarily closed the eastbound lanes for cleanup and investigation. The truck driver has not been located, and state police are continuing their search for the vehicle involved.
