Big rig hauling propane cylinders breaks apart in collision, causing major delays
STEVINSON, Calif. — A big rig carrying propane cylinders was involved in a minor-injury collision Monday night at the intersection of State Route 165 and State Route 140, causing significant traffic delays, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Merced office.
CHP said the force of the impact caused the truck’s cab to separate from the trailer, scattering propane cylinders across the roadway. Fire crews and tow operators responded quickly to secure the scene and begin cleanup operations.

Because of the debris and recovery efforts, officers implemented one-way traffic control, urging drivers to expect delays and consider alternate routes while the roadway remained partially blocked.
CHP also reminded motorists to use extra caution at intersections, emphasizing the importance of slowing down, checking cross-traffic, and avoiding rushed decisions to prevent future collisions.
The agency thanked drivers for their patience as crews worked to restore normal traffic flow.
