Driver Injured After Tractor-Trailer Overturns on I-295 in Freeport, Maine
FREEPORT, MAINE — A tractor-trailer overturned early Friday morning on Interstate 295, sending the driver to a Portland hospital after crashing near Exit 24 just before sunrise.
According to Maine State Police, the crash happened at approximately 5:36 a.m. when Nikola Loncar, 42, of Colorado, was operating a 2024 Mack tractor-trailer and drifted off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment and overturned off the highway. Fire crews arrived on scene and extricated Loncar from the cab. Officials noted he had been wearing his seat belt during the crash.
According to Bangor Daily News, firefighters removed Loncar from the wreckage before transporting him to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Maine State Police have not released additional information on the cause of the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
