FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested an allegedly impaired commercial truck driver who was also wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), authorities said in a December 5 statement.

The incident began when a Southeast Region Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Trooper stopped a semi-truck after spotting the driver using a handheld cellphone while operating the vehicle. During the roadside contact, the trooper observed clear signs of intoxication.

After conducting further investigation, officials confirmed the driver was impaired. He was arrested and booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated — his second offense.

While processing the arrest, DPS learned that the truck driver was also a “fugitive from justice” wanted by ICE, prompting federal involvement.

TXDPS emphasized the importance of strict enforcement on commercial motor vehicles, noting that removing unsafe operators helps prevent catastrophic crashes on Texas highways.

Our CVE Troopers remain committed to ensuring our roadways are safe by enforcing commercial vehicle laws and removing dangerous drivers from Texas roadways,” Texas DPS stated.

According to Texas DPS, the investigation is ongoing.
