RIO VISTA, California — One person was killed Monday following a crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle near the Rio Vista Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities responded to reports of the crash just before 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 160. Investigators said the collision involved a semi-truck and a Cadillac, and the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused the semi-truck to leave the roadway and go down an embankment, CHP said. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Photos released by the River Delta Fire District showed the semi-truck with heavy front-end damage, overturned off the roadway, with bales of hay scattered near the crash site.

As a result of the collision, both directions of Highway 12 and Highway 160 were fully closed for more than five hours, creating significant traffic impacts in the area. The roadway was reopened at approximately 9:20 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation according to the California Highway Patrol.
