Brampton Driver With Canada-Wide Suspension Arrested After Stealing Semi-Truck From Repair Shop and Crashing Into Police Cruiser During Stop Attempt
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO — A Brampton man with a Canada-wide driving suspension was arrested after police said he stole a semi-truck, later pulled a stolen trailer with it, and crashed the tractor-trailer into a police cruiser when officers attempted to stop him, before fleeing on foot and being taken into custody.

Peel Regional Police said the truck was reported stolen from the area of East Drive and Torbram Road in Brampton on Sunday, Dec. 21. Investigators said the semi-truck was located the next day, Monday, attached to a trailer police said had been stolen from Halton Region over the weekend of Dec. 20.

Police said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply and the vehicle instead struck a police cruiser, causing what investigators described as extensive damage. Police said the tractor-trailer later became inoperable, and the driver fled on foot before being arrested. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was identified as Nirmal Singh, 42, of Brampton. Police said further investigation revealed Singh had a Canada-wide driving suspension, which led to additional charges related to operating a vehicle while prohibited.
Police said Singh was charged with 17 offences, including:
