Police Stop Tractor-Trailer With Tire Deflation Device After Driver Flees and Runs 100 Yards in Yuma
YUMA, ARIZONA — A tractor-trailer driver was arrested Saturday after agents with the Yuma Station attempted a vehicle stop and the driver failed to yield, leading to a law enforcement response that included a controlled tire deflation device and a brief foot chase.
Authorities said Yuma Station agents initiated a stop on a tractor-trailer, but the driver continued instead of pulling over. Additional law enforcement agencies assisted, and a controlled tire deflation device was deployed, bringing the truck to a stop.
After the tractor-trailer stopped, the driver ran from the vehicle on foot. A Yuma Station agent arrested him roughly 100 yards from the truck, authorities said.
The driver was identified as Varinder Singh, described as an Indian national who authorities said is illegally present in the United States. Authorities also said Singh has an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear in Immigration Court.
Singh is being charged with fleeing from law enforcement and being in the country illegally, and authorities said he will also face state charges.
The case remains under investigation as the legal process moves forward.
