Trailer Breaks Free and Slams Into Garbage Truck After Semi Hits I-94 Overpass in Chicago
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a garbage dump truck shut down part of the Bishop Ford Freeway Monday afternoon after a semi struck an overpass and its trailer detached, Illinois State Police said.

Illinois State Police said troopers responded around 4:30 p.m. to southbound Interstate 94 at 127th Street, where a tractor-trailer hit the Norfolk Southern Bridge overpass. Police said the impact caused the empty trailer to dislodge from the tractor.

State police said the detached trailer then hit a garbage dump truck that was traveling in the center lane. Both vehicles came to rest against the left concrete median barrier, according to ISP.

One driver was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries, while the other driver refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Authorities reopened all lanes by 6:35 p.m.
