Truck Driver Dies, Burned Beyond Recognition After Tractor-Trailer Veers Off Road and Slams Pole and Tree in Texas
LINN, TEXAS — A single-driver tractor-trailer crash east of Edinburg turned fatal Tuesday afternoon when the rig left FM 186 near Linn, struck a pole and a tree, and then became engulfed in flames, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash happened around 12:32 p.m. on FM 186 east of U.S. 281, east of Linn. A 2016 Freightliner truck tractor occupied by one driver was traveling eastbound on FM 186 when, for unknown reasons, the driver veered off the roadway into the northbound bar ditch.

According to DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez, the tractor-trailer struck a pole and a tree, and the trailer caught fire. DPS said the driver was engulfed in flames and was burned beyond recognition. The driver’s identity has not been released and will not be confirmed until next of kin are notified, Hernandez said.
In an update on the closure, the Texas Department of Transportation said FM 186 is closed from U.S. 281 to west of Brushline Road due to the crash as investigators continue working the scene.
