Police Find Fentanyl Syringes After Suburban Towing Driver Goes Wrong Way and Causes DUI Crash on Dixie Highway

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A tow truck driver with Suburban Towing was arrested Tuesday night after police say he drove the wrong way on Dixie Highway and caused a crash in Louisville. Louisville Metro Police said the wreck happened around 9 p.m. in the 12700 block of Dixie Highway near Blevins Gap Road, when the tow truck struck another vehicle.

According to an arrest citation, Israel Rivera Gonzalez, 49, was operating the tow truck in the wrong direction when the collision occurred. Police said Gonzalez failed multiple field sobriety tests and was taken into custody at the scene.

Officers said they searched Gonzalez and found multiple syringes, and police reported that he admitted he took fentanyl before the crash. Authorities did not release details on injuries, but the incident resulted in criminal charges tied to impaired driving and public safety.

Gonzalez was charged with 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (189A.010), Buy or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Failure to Produce an Insurance Card, along with other related charges.

He has one prior arrest on record dated November 26, 2012, in Ohio County, Kentucky, for 4th-degree assault (domestic violence) with no visible injury.
