Semi-Truck Partially Overturns in Embankment and SUV Rolls Over After Crash on I-26 Near Nexton
SUMMERVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — A crash involving a semi-truck and an SUV on Interstate 26 westbound near Nexton caused lane closures and severe traffic backups on January 9, as crews worked to clean up a gas spill and remove the damaged vehicles.

Officials said the collision happened on I-26 West just after Exit 197A toward Nexton Parkway, where the leftmost lane remained closed as of 11:00 a.m. Multiple emergency vehicles were visible in the closed lanes on South Carolina Department of Transportation traffic cameras, including at least two fire trucks, several police vehicles, and a tow truck. Cameras also showed at least a dozen workers in yellow high-visibility vests inspecting and working the scene.

According to the C&B Fire Department, the crash involved an 18-wheeler that partially overturned down an embankment and an SUV that rolled over, sustaining heavy damage. Photos shared by the agency showed the SUV crumpled with extreme rear-end damage, exposing part of the interior, and the semi-truck’s cab appeared severely disfigured.

As of 10:00 a.m., no injuries had been reported, according to Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Pye said crews were actively working to clean a gas spill on the roadway and expected lanes to reopen once cleanup operations were completed.
