MERCED COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — A Jeep collided with a semi-truck early Thursday morning on a county road in Merced County, with dense fog and low visibility cited as major contributing factors, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said officers responded to the crash after the driver of the Jeep reportedly did not see the semi backing into a lot in time to slow down or avoid the collision. The Jeep struck the front of the truck, officials said.

Authorities reported no serious injuries.

In a statement, CHP warned that fog can quickly change driving conditions, noting visibility can drop rapidly, depth perception becomes difficult, and stopping distance becomes critical. Officials urged motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights, warning that high beams can worsen visibility in fog.
