The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Clovis Avenue near Highway 99, where CHP said visibility was low due to dense fog.

Investigators said the semi was traveling northbound on Clovis Avenue when the driver attempted to turn near Golden State Boulevard. At that time, CHP said a pickup truck traveling southbound slammed into the semi.

Authorities said the impact caused the pickup’s cab to become lodged beneath the semi’s trailer. The truck and trailer then caught fire, sending black smoke into the air.
