CHP Cites Trucker After Finding Him Sightseeing Nearly a Mile From His Rig Stopped on Golden Gate Bridge Shoulder
SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA — The California Highway Patrol issued a citation to a truck driver after troopers said he parked his big rig on the freeway shoulder to do some “sight-seeing” on the Golden Gate Bridge — a stop CHP emphasized was not an emergency.

CHP’s Marin Division said the incident happened on Jan. 18, 2026, when a commercial truck was found stopped on the shoulder. Troopers said the driver was not near the vehicle and was located almost a mile away taking in views of the bay from the bridge.

CHP used the incident to remind commercial drivers that shoulder stops are dangerous and only permitted when a vehicle is disabled, when directed by law enforcement, or during an emergency.
