Overturned Semi-Truck Leaking Diesel Damages Bridge, Prompts HazMat Response and Bridge Inspection in Madison County
MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA — Authorities are responding to a serious commercial vehicle incident after an overturned semi-truck began leaking diesel fuel on Brock Road, causing significant damage to a bridge, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident involved two commercial semi-trucks, with one of the trucks overturning and actively leaking diesel at the scene. Officials confirmed that injuries have been reported, though the extent and number of injured individuals have not yet been released.
Due to the fuel spill and structural concerns, Huntsville Fire & Rescue HazMat teams were dispatched to mitigate the diesel leak. The Alabama Department of Transportation and Madison County Emergency Management Agency have also been notified, while Alabama State Troopers are responding to assist with the investigation.
Law enforcement has blocked Highway 72 at Maysville Road as crews assess bridge damage and work to secure the scene. Officials expect the closure to remain in place for an extended period and are urging motorists, especially commercial drivers, to use alternate routes.
The crash remains under investigation.
