Weather Not to Blame as Tractor-Trailer Overturns and Blocks US 50 Westbound Near Berlin for Hours
BERLIN, MARYLAND — An overturned tractor-trailer brought traffic to a standstill on U.S. Route 50 westbound near Berlin Monday, forcing the closure of all westbound lanes as crews worked the scene, according to Maryland State Police.
MSP said troopers were called just after 11 a.m. on Jan. 26 to westbound U.S. 50 near Route 113 for a reported single-vehicle crash. When they arrived, police found a tractor-trailer overturned. Troopers said no one was injured.

Investigators said the tractor-trailer was traveling west when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned. Police noted they do not believe weather was a factor.
The crash prompted the shutdown of all westbound lanes in the area. As of 2:45 p.m., the Berlin Fire Company said it was still unclear when the roadway would reopen and that Old Ocean City Boulevard was being used as a detour.
MSP said the Maryland Department of the Environment also responded to assist. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
