CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA — A tractor-trailer rollover in Cabarrus County caused major delays Tuesday morning and forced a shutdown of Interstate 85 South near Concord as crews worked to clear the wreck and address a suspected fuel spill.

Officials said the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near George W. Liles Parkway. I-85 South reopened just before noon, after being completely shut down in the area for several hours.

During the closure, traffic slowed significantly as drivers were diverted off the interstate at Exit 54. The Concord Fire Department Hazmat Unit also responded, with troopers indicating the hazmat response was likely tied to a fuel spill.

It was not immediately clear whether icy conditions played a role in the crash. As of the latest update, officials had not confirmed how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was injured.
