42,000-Pound Steel Beam Load Punches Through Tractor-Trailer Cab After Sudden Stop on Lincoln Highway in York County
YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA — A tractor-trailer hauling a 42,000-pound load of steel beams had its cab punctured by the cargo Monday morning after the driver came to an abrupt stop on Lincoln Highway in Paradise Township, according to the York County Office of Emergency Management.

Officials said the crash happened around 8:23 a.m., when the load shifted forward, sending several large beams through the cab area where the driver had been seated. Despite the severity of the damage, the driver escaped without injury. Paradise Township Emergency Management Coordinator Neal Doyle called the outcome fortunate, saying the driver was “lucky.”

Northern York County Regional Police, United Hook and Ladder, and Northeast Adams Fire and EMS responded to the scene. PennDOT assisted with traffic control as Lincoln Highway was shut down between Lake and Canal roads while crews worked to clear the wreckage and secure the load.
The roadway reopened at 12:10 p.m.
