FHP Searching for Truck Driver After Dump Truck With Raised Bed Strikes Toll Structure, Camera Falls Onto SR-408 in Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, Florida — Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a dump truck after a raised dump bed struck an overhead toll structure on State Road 408, causing a toll camera assembly to fall onto the roadway.
The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes near mile marker 6, just east of North Pine Hills Road. According to troopers, a light-colored dump truck with a darker bed was traveling west in the outside center lane when the dump bed was left in the raised position and failed to clear the overhead toll lane structure.
FHP said the raised bed struck the bridge and toll equipment, including cameras, sensors and mounting hardware. The impact caused at least one toll camera to fall onto the roadway. The rightmost westbound lane was closed while crews responded and assessed the damage.
The dump truck driver did not remain at the scene and is being sought by authorities.
Florida Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information about the incident or the truck involved to contact FHP or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
