CHEYENNE, Wyoming — The Wyoming Highway Patrol cited a semi truck driver after he illegally bypassed a weigh station in Cheyenne, despite clear signage and troopers monitoring the area.

On February 24, the Wyoming Highway Patrol shared details of the stop on social media, explaining that a semi displaying the phrase “Blue The Scales” failed to stop at the scale house and continued past the facility. Troopers observed the violation and conducted a traffic stop.

Officials noted that even though the truck was hauling an empty flatbed trailer, stopping at an open weigh station is not optional.

“This semi with ‘Blue The Scales’ put its money where its mouth was and blew by the scales in Cheyenne. He also blew by the watching troopers. While we appreciate the humor, you’re still getting a ticket,” WHP stated.

Troopers also addressed a common misconception within parts of the trucking industry that drivers can bypass weigh stations without consequence.

“There is a common belief in some trucking circles that you can illegally bypass a weigh station and no one will chase after you. Not the case here in the Cowboy State!” the agency said.

Despite the violation, WHP said the driver was cooperative during the stop.

“On a side note, the driver of this semi was understanding and great to work with. We at the WHP have a top priority of keeping our roads safe – we also love our truckers and appreciate all the long hours and hard work you put in to keep America running.”

Authorities did not release the amount of the citation but reiterated that weigh station compliance is mandatory when scales are open.
