Both Directions of I-10 Shut Down on Louisiana's Atchafalaya Basin Bridge After Several 18-Wheelers Involved in Multiple Crashes Near Whiskey Bay
IBERVILLE PARISH, LOUISIANA — Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 10 on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge were shut down Tuesday after multiple crashes involving several 18-wheelers near Whiskey Bay.
Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to the crashes near mile marker 128 on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. The crashes caused significant blockages affecting traffic in both directions, prompting LSP to issue a travel advisory urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. I-10 east and west were closed past Louisiana Highway 975 at Whiskey Bay.

"Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Troopers and first responders remain on scene working to safely clear the roadway," LSP said.
The number of vehicles involved and whether anyone was injured had not been confirmed at the time of reporting. Motorists were directed to utilize the 511 phone system, visit www.511la.org, or download the Louisiana 511 mobile app for road closure updates.
