The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near the 17-mile marker, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said the dump truck experienced a tire rupture, causing the driver to lose control. The truck overturned and collided with the wall of the bridge, coming to rest on top of the wall with the truck box hanging over the side above the water. Photos provided by the highway patrol show the cab of the truck resting on the roadway with the driver side windshield busted out and the dump truck box dangling off the bridge.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely and was transported to a local hospital. His injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Eastbound I-10 was closed while crews worked to remove the truck. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
