Hundreds of trucks were inspected during a high visibility enforcement campaign in Georgia earlier this month.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)’s SafeDRIVE (Distracted Reckless Impaired Visibility Enforcement) is a quarterly traffic enforcement effort involving law enforcement partners in 13 states.

The final wave of SafeDRIVE for 2021 took place October 5 — 7.

In Georgia, the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) of the Department of Public Safety focused on CMV enforcement along I-95, I-75, and I-85 as part of SafeDRIVE.

During the three day campaign “MCCD Officers monitored CMV traffic for aggressive driving, speeding, following too closely, failing to wear safety belts, distracted driving, and driving under the influence. These efforts help ensure CMV drivers follow federal and state regulations, including hours of service compliance, commercial driver’s license compliance, medical certification, and commercial motor vehicle credentialing.”

Officers conducted a total of 682 commercial motor vehicles and issued a total of 329 traffic citations. Additionally, 81 drivers and 58 CMVs were placed out of service for various violations.
