I-71 expected to remain closed for full 24 hours by the time HAZMAT crash cleared

Interstate 71 in Kentucky is expected to remain closed through most of Thursday evening for the clearing of a HAZMAT wreck that occurred on Wednesday night. 

 

The wreck happened on April 27th around 9:30 p.m. near the 26 mile marker on I-71 in Henry County. 

According to WLKY News, multiple vehicles, including at least one semi truck hauling nitrogen, were involved in the wreck. That semi truck involved caught fire as a result of the incident. 

 

As of 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, southbound I-71 near mile marker 26 was still closed. Officials expect the roadway to be closed until approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday evening. 

Drivers are currently being detoured via exit 28 to Kentucky Route 153 (Pendleton Road) to U.S. Route 42 west to Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway).
