The electric Freightliner eCascadia is set to be launched later this year, beating the Tesla electric semi truck to market.

The electric semi trucks have been tested for 1 million miles by customers using prototypes to make actual deliveries. The eCascadia will be available with three different battery packs at 194, 291, and 438 kWh, which will enable the trucks to have a “typical range” of 230 miles. The 194 kWh battery will take approximately one and a half to three hours to charge, while the 438 kWh will take around two to six hours.

As for the powertrain, single motor versions produce 320 horsepower, while the dul motor version offer 470 hp.

The company says that the electric semi truck is “ideally suited for short-haul routes that allow for depot-based charging,” reports Car Scoops.
